Quebec City Christmas Market 2026: Dates, Hours and What to See
Two free markets, inside the walls of Old Québec and out, plus a barn-and-rink market 30 minutes away and what a cup of vin chaud costs in December 2026.
Por Nadia HaddadMarkets, bistros and the queue that's worth it

Red-and-green wooden chalets go up on Place de l'Hôtel-de-Ville on Nov. 19, inside the stone walls of Old Québec, with the green copper turrets of Château Frontenac behind them. A cup of vin chaud costs $10 to $14 (Canadian dollars). Both of the city's main Christmas markets charge nothing at the door.
Chalets and vin chaud inside the walls

Steam off the mulled wine rises under the string lights, and the fir garlands carry a dusting of snow. The Marché de Noël allemand de Québec (Place de l'Hôtel-de-Ville, Old Québec) fills that square and several others in the old town with more than 100 exhibitors, giant nutcrackers at the ends of the chalet rows. The run is Nov. 19 to Dec. 23, 2026.
Entry is free and unticketed, so you walk in whenever you reach the walls. Eat before you shop. Sausage and raclette plates cost $12 to $20, and the vin chaud is $10 to $14 a cup.
Start at the food counters on Place de l'Hôtel-de-Ville and work outward through the other squares. There is no gate and no ticket, so a group of any size walks straight in together.
Saturdays are dense. Choose a weekday if you want room at the counters. The market runs a tour-operator and guided-tour programme and welcomes coach groups and guided walks; book a guided slot ahead for any weekend date.
This is the market to build a December trip around. No other Canadian Christmas market sits inside a walled UNESCO old town. The crowds are worth standing in.

Indoor stalls at Le Grand Marché
This one is warm. Le Grand Marché de Noël (ExpoCité) trades under the curved arched roof of the former Pavillon du Commerce, pale laminated-timber ribs running over long straight aisles of producer stalls. More than 250 Québec food producers, artisans and artists sell there daily from Nov. 21 to Dec. 24, 2026.

Crates of Québec cheeses, maple products and fir wreaths line the aisles. Tastings and producer goods cost $5 to $25 an item, which is where most of a morning's money goes.
Entry is free and the hall is indoors, which makes it the easiest stop for a large group or for anyone with mobility needs. School and tour groups walk through, and there is no door policy.
In a minus 20 C snap this is the market that still functions. Take the aisles at your own pace and keep the walled city for a milder afternoon.
A weekend run out to Stoneham-et-Tewkesbury

Tastings are poured inside the old timber Grange du Presbytère, its doorways lit, with cabins and a large white marquee pitched beside the outdoor skating rink at Parc des Fondateurs. Forested ski-valley slopes rise on every side. The Marché de Noël de Stoneham-et-Tewkesbury (Parc des Fondateurs) sits 30 minutes from Québec City, on the road to the ski hill.
The 17th edition takes two weekends, Dec. 4 to 6 and Dec. 11 to 13, 2026. Entry is free. Tastings, food and crafts cost $5 to $25.
Skate beside the stalls, then buy from the barn before you drive back. Go on one of those two weekends; the site is closed the rest of the month, and a midweek drive out finds nothing open.
Planning the December days
Nothing here is ticketed, and the only reservation to make is a guided slot at the walled-city market on a weekend. All three sites shut before the end of December, the chalets inside the walls first and the ExpoCité hall last.
